Kenya Build 2006

While working on the houses at St Pauls in 2005 I was brought to visit St Pauls school which is part of St Pauls orphanage. The school was in two sections, one an old falling down mud house which had two classes and the second structure was of wooden frame and galvanised sheeting and it housed five classes. Both buildings were in a very bad state of repair.

I decided that what was needed was a totally new building, with eight classrooms a library and a principals/teachers office. The school as was catered for all the children from St Pauls which was sixty, but the plan was that the new school would be able to cater for about sixty children from the local community also. These children would have to pay a small fee which would cover some of the running costs of the school. The school now has 148 pupils enrolled.

Work on the project commenced in August 2006 and was completed in time for the start of the new school year which was in January 2007, with all the work being carried out by local labour.

All the work was paid for by money raised by Kenya Build volunteers.
