Kenya Build 2009
Cheryls Childrens Rescue Centre and Riruta Shade
The 2009 project was a great success, with work being carried out at Cheryl’s Children’s Rescue Centre and at Riruta Shade Orphanage. A group of eleven volunteers took part.
At Cheryl’s it was phase three of the building work and it saw the building of a new kitchen and store, a new dining/recreation hall, a new classroom and a new teacher’s office.
At Riruta Shade two new classrooms and a new office were built. The work commenced in early February at both orphanages, with the work being carried out by local labour. The volunteers went out for a week in mid June.
During the week at Cheryl’s the ceiling was put in place in the dining hall and the store and dining hall were painted. The blockwork on the new classroom and office was also completed. At Riruta Shade the roof was put on the building and the windows and doors were fitted. The plastering and the concreting of the floors was also started.
Once the volunteers left, the projects were completed by local labour.
All the work was funded by Kenya Build volunteers and friends. This year Dundalk Grammar School raised a substantial amount of money for the work of Kenya Build.
